'The Alienation Effect: How Central European Émigrés Transformed the British Twentieth Century', by Owen Hatherley
608 pp. London: Allen Lane, 2025. ₤35 [HB]. ISBN 9780241378205.
This new book on architecture deals with foreign architects who came to work in Britain in the 1930s to escape the Nazis. Ernö Goldfinger is included in this work (Ernö is pronounced earner). Many lesser and now forgotten alien architects are also introduced and it may now be possible to find out from this book if there really was any Viennese influence regarding the so-called Viennese Flats at Woodberry Down.
